October 1 Hearing – 1 Victory Down, Many More to Come!
Protesters at Fish and Game hearing succeeded in pushing the schedule for the final hearing until the next fiscal year!
See our team speak, as well as present the CaPetBan.com almost 1,300 petitions being presented!
Many spoke eloquently about the vague and dangerously subjective language of the proposed regulations, and quite a few of them on our CaPetBan team! Dr. David Ostrach, a biologist with years of fish and game experience brought his 90% wolfdog service dog with him as he spoke of the need for better regulatory language that addressed specific problems.
Commissioners were surprised at the turnout, and were very receptive to speakers. The law enforcement guy for fish and game, Rob Allen, minimized the impact of the language – but with all due respect, this very vagueness is what would give his department more unchecked power.
The timeline has been greatly extended to meet the commissioners request for submittals for more appropriate language, details of our concerns for both the fiscal impact and risk of pet seizure. CaPetBan is working with experts to present more information to the commission – and we will need your support to make sure they listen.
117 extra signatures were collected the morning of the hearing, but due to time constraints it was impossible to take these in. They will however be included in the presentation at the next hearing, along with any signatures collected between now and then… and an educational presentation that we are currently putting together.

You answered a previous comment question..The Petition signing must start all over again!!! I had great response by posting the link in all of my friend’s comment sections on MySpace..That way, each & every person is sure to see it & then all they need to do is click on the link right there in front of them & sign..Also, others who read their comments will see the link, too! I will do this again soon..The more friends you have, the longer it takes!
Also, I want to say that when I mentioned our local paper here & that we can use it as a Flyer tool; I spelled it wrong..It is called “The Mountain Yodeler.” I will be contacting them to find out the process for them to include Flyers for the June (or ?) issue in each & every paper they send..These papers are sent to local residents in the mail once a month…
Have you heard of Cesar Millan (the Dog Whisperer)? He is passionate about helping dogs and owners. He is in CA and has a dog rehabilitation center and has helped some people who have wolf/dog pets with food aggression. It cant hurt to get him on board your team to help educate these people. It cant hurt to ask.
He esp advocates for breeds that people look down upon like rottweilers and pit bulls…I’m sure he’d add wolf hybrids to his mix!
( I am an avid animal activist -mostly cats in Louisiana- and online stuff- so I just want to spread the word. I am not affiliated with Cesar and will make no money. I just know he helps educate people about dogs and does talks and stuff.)
GOOD LUCK!
Did anyone listen to the whole recording and see the game warden at the end say that according to Regulation 671 wolf hybrids are not an issue in Reg in 681? In Regulation 671 it says:

ii. No state permit is required to possess the progeny of F1 generation wolf hybrids, but cities and counties may prohibit possession or require a permit.
Danna,
You are right.. The problem with this is, however.. that the new legislation would allow officers to determine what an F1 is or isn’t, just based on how the animal looks. This is what we need to get clarified.
